Claire is my oldest niece and she is very special to me. She moved with her family to Medicine Hat and I miss her so much.

Being the oldest of four, she rarely has time to herself, and was super excited that she was going to be able to come and stay with us all by herself…no sisters or brothers.

She loves to craft and is so very creative. We wanted to make something special for her new room. This is the first time, since she was less than two, that she would have her own bedroom. when they lived in Saskatoon, she shared a room with both of her sisters! I am very proud of what she came up with and I think it will look super in her bedroom!

My brother and his family have always lived very near to us. When we moved to Conquest three years ago, we were 45 minutes away and that is the farthest we have ever been. Needless to say, the kids are all very close.

Well, this past summer, my brother, his wife and their four kids moved away…far away…like a whole different province away. We miss them so much.

Sweet Little Twins

My cousin just had the most beautiful little twin girls. I wanted to make them something special that they could treasure forever. The problem is, with working full-time, being a mom to three kids and a wife to the fourth, doing Scentsy parties and CTMH classes and Christmas trade shows, I do not have time to sit and make albums like I usually do for new babies in the family.

Witchy Finger Shortbread

I work in a bakery, so we decided to make almond shortbread to hand out to the trick-or-treaters. It is not just any almond shortbread, though…we made WITCH FINGERS!!! They were a hit. I think we might have to make them every year!
You may recognize the little owl topper as a stamp from the Pair-A-Phrase stamp set. I would have used something a little spookier, but we decided on packaging that day and this was the only set I had with me!

This week at Heart 2 Heart, they have decided on a color challenge. the colors are Autumn Terracotta, Juniper and Bamboo. I love color challenges…they are my favorite. If you would like to play along, you can see the challenge here.
This is what I came up with:

I have always loved this stamp set and I thought I would pair it with a real “present”. The gift is actually a Hershey’s Nugget attached to the inside of the card. I punched the front of the card so the gift would pop through. I have a friend who has not been well for awhile and I thought I would send her this card to cheer her up.
Do you know there is only one thing better than receiving a handmade card from a friend? Yes. Receiving a handmade card from a friend that also contains chocolate!

First Day for Dolly!

I have been working on layouts recently. When I started making cards, I pretty much stopped doing layouts and now I am really far behind. Here is a layout I did for Will J’s first day of school. He was going to PreK and he was only three years old. I was really sad, but he was so excited to go on the school bus!

I used a CTMH kit that was a campaign in the spring called From Me to You. It was the first thing I used with the new thick papers and was a lot of fun to play with.

Reindeer Noses

There was a contest at Regionals and the rules were simple. We had to make something using the awesome Kraft Die-Cut Cards. I decided to make a little treat box.

I scored the card at 1/2” on either side of the fold and folded it up into this little bag. I covered the front with patterned paper, punched a scallop circle and added a reindeer sticker and the title. Finally, I added some bling buttons to the top and filled it with a bag of Whoppers candy and Cherry Sours.

It didn’t win, but I still think it is cute. Plus, I was up against some very talented women and the ones that did win were certainly very deserving!

Vancouver Regionals

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the Close To My Heart Regional celebration in Vancouver, BC. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.

The people from CTMH that were there were wonderful and made us feel very special as consultants. We had some great business classes as well as some fabulous creative sessions.

I also had the opportunity to meet some wonderful new friends. These ladies are what made the experience so wonderful and I am so blessed to have had the chance to spend the weekend with them!

I have been a bad blogger. It has been so long since I posted anything. I don't really have a good excuse, except that, with my full-time job, I have taken a step back from my crafting business to spend more time with my children.

We have had a great summer together as a family and have built so many happy memories (that will need to be scrapbooked).

I am hoping to spend more time in the craft room and would like to start posting on my blog again. I cannot promise a new post every day, but I will post as often as I can.

I have the opportuinty to travel to Vancouver to attend Close to My Heart's Regional Celebration. I will be flying there on Thursday and will hopefully be able to post about my experiences there. I will be teaching a class, which I am both really excited and really nervous about.

Waste Not Recipe Swap

I joined a recipe swap and the rules were that you had to use leftovers in the recipe and you had to use two different recyclables (otherwise known as trash) on your recipe card. This is what I came up with:

The only supplies I used was cardstock. I cut the bear, the bowl and the chopsticks out with my Cricut, using the Create-A-Critter cartridge. For recyclables, the plate is actually a soup can lid and the sushi is made out of twist ties. This was a lot of fun.

I started this blog one year ago, today! Though I have neglected it a few times, I really do love my blog and love that I have a place to share my creations, my thoughts and brag about my kids a little bit. Today, my nephew, Jaxon, is three. He is crazy about trains and as I looked through my stamps, I realized I did not have a single one with trains (must rectify that real soon)! So, I shrunk a coloring page and printed it out and paper pieced it. I am alright with how it turned out. And Jaxon is three, so he really won’t care about the card at all Happy Birthday, buddy! We sure are going to miss you when you move away to Alberta!

Funny Baby!

We have all been sick at our house this week and have not been in very good moods. When I saw this, though, I had to laugh. This is the baby that my five year old was pushing around the house. It is the funniest looking (and perhaps saddest?) baby I have ever seen.

I recently met a fellow CTMH sister, Cary Brunett, and I am so happy to have a new scrapping friend. I love all of my scrapping friends from the city, but Cary may be the only one who understands my Close To My Heart addiction. She is super sweet and invited me to come to her monthly crop. i jumped at the opportunity. She is so talented and I have so much hat I can learn from her. I am very excited about getting to know her better. I met with her group on Friday and we made this excellent layout. The word I picked was “courage”. It is a big one for me this year, as I want to both have a voice and take more risks. The journaling will include me being able to say no more often and for me to be able to take risks, like opening a scrapbooking/book store in Outlook.

I liked the gift bag I made so much,that I decided to do another one. The H2H challenge this week is a color challenge, so I thought I would try to incorporate the colors into my bag. The rules were to use pear, sky blue and colonial white. We could also add a touch of sorbet, if we wanted to. I chose a sorbet ribbon. It turned out pretty cute. I am going to put some homemade candy into it and give it to a friend who has been having a bit of a rough time lately. Hopefully, it will brighten her day.

A Gift Bag for Someone Special!

I had a small gift for a friend that I needed to wrap and I could not locate any wrap that was not for Christmas. I decided to make a gift bag for it and I found this really cute tutorial at Splitcoast Stampers. It turned out to be just what I needed and I am pleased at how the presentation turned out. I also made a miniature version of the bows I was working on yesterday.

I found a tutorial for making paper gift bows and I thought they were so cute. I tweaked the instructions a bit and made some for myself. They turned out great and they are very simple to make. I did not use brads in mine…it was all adhesive. If you are interested in trying some, check out the tutorial on Split Coast Stampers here.

The bows were all made with retired CTMH paper, except the bottom one, which was made with the Miracle Kit. It was a special last May. The paper was really beautiful and I was hoping they would come out with a whole pack of it. They may or may not have obliged me in the new catalog that starts on February 1. (I’m not telling ;)

Snow Fun!

We had a snow storm this weekend and we really got dumped on. By Sunday afternoon, the sky had cleared and the kids wanted to go out and play. I snapped a few shots of them,but not many, as I was wanting to stay in the warm comfort of the house.

Why Me???

This title sounds a bit like a whiny post and that is because it is. My daughter came home with head lice for the third time and oddly enough, she was playing with the same kids every time. If you have ever experienced this, you know I have a right to whine about it and if you haven’t experienced it, let me tell you that it is anything but fun. You have to vacuum everything…mattresses, carpets, couches, chairs. As if normal, everyday laundry with three kids is not enough, when head lice moves in, every single article of clothing that is may have come in contact with your child has to be washed…all of the bedding, towels, etc…EVERYTHING! All stuffed animals and fabrics that cannot be washed (dress-up clothes) have to be placed in an airtight bag for three weeks. Then the worst is that it breaks your heart knowing that you are intentionally pouring pesticides over your child’s head. The smell alone is enough to gag you. As I rinsed the crap from my child’s head, I secretly cursed the parents of the kids who gave it to her. Hw could they leave it go untreated? It is not fair to their children or the people around them. I would not want to see my child constantly scratching. I decided to take matters into my own hands…Courtney is no longer allowed to go to their house, nor are they allowed in ours until I know they have been treated and are lice free. I think hey probably use the lice shampoo on their kids, but getting rid of lice is so much more than just shampooing…it is the thorough cleaning and the careful combing for the next ten days. The second thing we have done to get id of it once and for all is give her a haircut. Yes, it was drastic, but hopefully it is the last we will see of lice in this house….EVER!

Good thing she has a really pretty head!

Lest We Forget

As Canadians, we take this day, November 11th, every year, to remember those who have given their all so that we can have freedom. A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to ‘Canada’ for an amount of ‘up to and including my life.’

A Pittance of Time – 2 minutes for the fallen soldiers. The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month: On November 11, 1999 Terry Kelly was in a drug store in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. At 10:55 AM an announcement came over the stores PA, asking customers who would still be on the premises at 11:00 AM to give two minutes of silence in respect to the veterans who have sacrificed so much for us. Terry was impressed with the stores leadership role in adopting the Legions two minutes of silence initiative. He felt that the stores contribution of educating the public to the importance of remembering was commendable. When eleven oclock arrived on that day, an announcement was again made asking for the two minutes of silence to commence. All customers, with the exception of a man who was accompanied by his young child, showed their respect.
Terrys anger towards the father for trying to engage the stores clerk in conversation and for setting a bad example for his child was channeled into a beautiful piece of work called, A Pittance of Time. Terry later recorded A Pittance of Time and included it on his full-length music CD, The Power of the Dream.
