If you had a chance to read the CTMH retiring list that I posted yesterday, you will notice that all (yes ALL) of the current paperpacks and stickers are being retired. There are many big changes ahead for Close to My Heart. In 2011, there will be only two idea books instead of three. This is good news, as it means there will be many more wonderful new things in the book. The other big news is that anything in a book will be available for only the life of that book. That means, any paper packs, embellishments and stamp sets will only be available for six months. As it is right now, we have stamp sets and paper packs that are five years old. So, what does this mean for you? If you see something that you want, you have to remember that after the six months the book is live, it will be gone forever.

Now for some great news! Because all of the paper packs and Stickease are being retired, CTMH is having a huge blowout sale. I am posting a list of what will be on the sale.

The sale will be from August 4th-11th, while supplies last.  If you would like anything, please feel free to place the order on my website.

Blog Candy Winner!

My friend and fellow CTMH sister, Deneen, was offering some blog candy on her blog to celebrate 50,000 hits. Well, I WON! I got my package today and I was WOWED! She is such an amazing artist and such an inspiration to me.

This is an adorable mini version of the purses that I posted awhile back. Isn’t it cute. The best thing is that she also sent me the template so I can make some. The pendant necklace hanging behind the purse is also one of Deneen’s creations. If you want to see some more of her wonderful pendants, check them out here.

Cupcakes, cupcakes, cupcakes…

Since I started working at the bakery, I have had no time for anything. My craft room is neglected, my reading list is neglected and most of all, my kids are neglected. Since I work such early hours, I don’t see the kids before work. When I get home, I usually take a nap and then it is time for supper and getting the kids to bed. They were starting to feel it and asked if we could do something fun together. When questioned about what they wanted to do, cupcakes was the answer. Baking is the last thing I want to do when I come home from work, but I will do anything for the little monsters. We ended up having a lot of fun and I do enjoy seeing my budding bakers at work. (Hopefully it will come in handy in 10 years when they come to work at the bakery!)

Christmas In July

While we were away on vacation, I sent a day making Christmas cards with my mom, my sister-in-law and my mom’s friend, Kathy. I know it seems a little early, but I have a lot of cards to make and send out, so starting now is a smart thing for me. I will be posting Christmas cards for the next several days. I am starting at the bakery tomorrow and will be extremely busy this week with wok, classes and family. I will try to get into my craft room, but at this point it is not looking really promising.

All product used is CTMH except for the Stickles on the front trees. The paper is from the Everlasting paper pack, which is now retired. I have heard that there is some fabulous Christmas paper coming out in the new catalog, but we will have to wait until September 1st to see them. The trees are from Holiday Trinkets and the inscription is from Card Chatter-Christmas.

Buttons and Bows

The challenge for this week at Lasting Memories is to make a layout using buttons and bows. This is not necessarily a challenge for me as buttons and ribbon are some of my favorite embellishments. I do love a challenge, though, and bows are not something I would necessarily normally use.

I used the Perfect Day paperpack and the pattern was from the Miracle Kit that was available in May 2010. The title is a rub-on from My Mind’s Eye Laundry Line collection. the ribbons and buttons are all CTMH.

Back From Vacation!

I have been away on vacation and that is why I have not been posting. We went camping and William went to Bible Camp for the first time. He attended the same camp I grew up at and my Grandpa McIver built a lot of the camp back when he was the minister at the church in Loon Lake. I will hopefully have time to get into my craft room and get some posts for this week. I will be starting at the bakery on Tuesday, so it may be a busy one.

Happy Birthday, Brother!

No, it is not my brother’s birthday, but when it is, I have a hard time making a card for him. Him, or any other male for that matter. No matter how hard I try, my cards always look very feminine. Making masculine cards is definitely something way out of my comfort zone. When I do make one, it always ends up looking so plain. I ordered the Passages paper, hoping for some inspiration on making a masculine card.  Well, I got the paper on Monday and decided I would try using the Heart 2 Heart challenge this week to design my card. They did a sketch challenge. It is City Scape from the Wishes Idea Book. Here is a graphic of the sketch:

All of the products used to make this card are CTMH. I used the Passages WOTG, A Little Everything (March 2010 SOTM), Cocoa grosgrain ribbon and Wonderful Friend (June 2010 SOTM). The watch face on the front of the card is covered with Liquid Glass. The final size of the card is 5x7.

Mommy, I Want a Princess Clock…

…These are the words I heard when my nearly five-year-old daughter saw this picture…

Now I am certainly not against my kids having clocks. I think that all kids should have this old style face clock in their rooms and learn how to tell time on something that is not digital. However, I was not going to spend $25 on a poor quality clock for her either. We went to the dollar store and bought a clock for $1. A little bit of paint, paper and bling and this is what we ended up with…

The whole thing probably cost me $4.00 to make. I simply took apart the dollar store clock, sanded it and painted it with white acrylic paint. After the last coat of paint, I covered it with Prisma Glitter, dumped of the excess and returned it to it’s jar. (Why yes, there is glitter all over me, my children and my kitchen!) I cut a round circle for the inside from the Imaginisce Twitterpated kit. That is also where I got the little bird rub on for the front of the clock. I used Stampin’ Up! Boho Blossoms punch for the numbers and her name. They were both stamped with the small Friendship alphabet. I then added blue rhinestones from Michaels and CTMH bitty sparkles. Courtney and I were both pleased with how it turned out and now she has a clock, fit for a princess, for a fraction of what the one she wanted would have cost.

Happy Birthday, Jess!

Another friend, another birthday! Jess’s birthday was on Monday. She was my boss at the Co-op, but now that I am not working there anymore, we can be “real” friends. It was hard for us because we hit it off right away when I started there, but because she was my immediate supervisor, we couldn’t really have a relationship outside of work. Now we can and we are both happy about it. Our kids are the same age and we will definitely getting together a lot more now. So, my real friend, Happy birthday!

All products used in this card were from CTMH. The paper was from the Cherry-O pack. Other things used were the tulip mini medleys, the autumn daisy flowers (retired), big pinks flowers, heartfelt wonder, cocoa grosgrain and tulip grosgrain. The stamp sets used were Treasures of the Heart (retired), A Little Everything (March 2010 SOTM), and Say It In Style.

Happy Birthday, Rae!

It was my friend, Rae’s birthday on Sunday. You will find that I always post birthday cards after the fact. that is because I would hate for someone to see their card on my blog before they get the real version. So, Rae, happy belated birthday.

Rae loves hydrangeas and I had some paper ones, so I thought that the Bella paper pack was the best match. I used some Laundry Line rub-on’s from My Mind’s Eye and some adhesive backed half pearls. For the inside, I used a couple more rub-ons and For Every Occasion stamp set. I am really pleased with how it turned out. A pretty card for a pretty lady.

My “Purse”onality!

I always said that I was not a purse or a shoe person. I never used to carry a purse; only a wallet. After I had my kids, I got so used to carrying a diaper bag around and being able to take a lot with me, that I started carrying a purse. I still was not much of a purse person. I used the same purse for three years. Well, in the past year or so, something changed in me and I started liking purses a lot more than I used to. I found it boring to always use the same purse. A friend from work gave me a couple that she no longer used and I bought a few myself. I now own eight purses. That is about seven more than I ever owned in my life a year ago. By far, my favorite one is this one that I ordered from Oriental Trading Company. You can get your own here.

The purse has two clear 8 1/2” x 11” pockets. In the first one, I cut down the cover from one of my catalogs and stuck it in there. I thought it would be great to be able to advertise wherever I go. On the second side, I made a page of my three kids. I used My Mind’s Eye “Laundry Line” collection. The paper and embellishments not only matched the pictures, but it also matched the outfit I wore to a wedding a couple of weeks ago. I love that I can change the pages to suit my “purse”onality.

Snowflake Kisses!

The Heart 2 Heart challenge this week was red, white and blue with stars or stripes. I also came across another challenge with the same theme for this week. It is called Lasting Memories Layout challenge and you can find it here. So, one layout = 2 challenges.

This was our wedding day. November 25, 2004. It was cold, a little bit snowy (ignore the grass in the background, there was snow as I recall) and we got married outside in our winter jackets. It was perfect for us and is a day we will always remember.

I used CTMH Grey Wool cardstock (sanded over a stencil). I know it is not blue, but it does kind of have a blue tinge to it. The white flowers are CTMH. I am not sure if the red ones are or not. They were a gift from my CTMH secret sister. I know they do not have red flowers now, but I am not sure if they did in the past. The red ribbon is from Wal-Mart and the white is CTMH (these are my stripes). The snowflakes and the title are rub-ons from Daisy D’s. The rhinestones are CTMH clear sparkles.

For My American Friends and Family….

Happy Independence Day! With our festivities being all over now, it is nice to know that our Southern neighbors are still celebrating their freedom. Though I said our festivities are over, I still feel blessed every day to live in a land that allows us freedom of speech, religion, etc.

Anyways, enough rambling…Have a great 4th of July!

A Purse for Mrs. Colton

Mrs. Colton was an EA at William’s school. She worked with his class a lot in grade one. She wasn’t with him as much in grade two, but he was always happy when he got to talk with her at recess or while he was waiting for the school bus. She announced her retirement a couple of weeks ago and that made him very sad. He figured we should make a gift for her as well and I thought that was a great idea. So, we made another purse with another set of cards.

This time I used the Bella paper. I thought since she was retiring, she might like it better than the school papers. She loved it and told William that she would come visit him and make sure he was being good. It is just the start of summer vacation and he is already looking forward to fall when Mrs. Colton comes to visit the school.

Saying Good-Bye to Teacher

William did very well in school this year and I think it had a lot to do with him having a teacher that he loved. He was not very fond of his teacher last year and wanted me to homeschool him this year. I told him to give it a chance and he ended up loving it. He had a wonderful report card and is officially in grade three. (WOW!) I wanted to give his teacher something special because she really has been a blessing to us this year. I decided on a purse with note cards.

I used the School Zone Level 2 paper pack. It is retired now, but I thought it would be fitting for a teacher. There are eight matching cards inside and the little card in the front is the thank you card that William signed. It fit perfectly into the front pocket of the purse.
She loved the purse and that made William happy.
We picked up his report card today and found out that Mrs. Thompson is going to be his teacher again next year and that made me happy!
